Valve Cover - RH: Removal

- If equipped, remove the transmission filler tube. For additional information, refer to TRANSMISSION FILLER TUBE .
- Remove the RH variable camshaft timing (VCT) oil control solenoid. For additional information, refer to VARIABLE CAMSHAFT TIMING (VCT) OIL CONTROL SOLENOID .
- Remove the RH ignition coils. For additional information, refer to IGNITION COIL-ON-PLUG -- 5.4L .
- Remove the crankcase vent tube.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer from the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve bracket.
- Disconnect the EVAP vapor tubes and the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector.
- Remove the 3 nuts and the EVAP canister purge valve assembly.
- Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the valve cover.
- Loosen the 15 fasteners and remove the RH valve cover and gasket.
- Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
