WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Ford Pickup and 2005 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Inspect the oil pan. Clean the mating surface for the oil pan with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Position the oil pump screen and pickup tube in the oil pan and position the oil pan into the vehicle.
- Position the oil pump screen and pickup tube and install the bolts.
- Tighten the oil pump screen and pickup tube-to-oil pump bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Tighten the oil pump screen and pickup tube-to-spacer bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Apply silicone gasket and sealant at the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate-to-cylinder block sealing surface.
- Apply silicone gasket and sealant at the engine front cover-to-cylinder block sealing surface.
- Install the oil pan gasket and the oil pan and loosely install the 16 bolts.
- Tighten the bolts in 3 stages, in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
- Stage 3: Tighten an additional 60 degrees.
- Install the wire harness bracket and the bolt.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Position the starter wiring harness support bracket and install the nut.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Connect the engine oil temperature (EOT) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the transmission. For additional information, refer to TRANSMISSION for automatic transmission or REMOVAL for manual transmissions.
- Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
CAUTION:
Make sure to install a new O-ring seal. A missing or damaged O-ring seal can cause foam in the lubrication system, low oil pressure and severe engine damage.
NOTE:
Clean and inspect the mating surfaces and install a new O-ring seal. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.
NOTE:
If not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. To clean the sealing area, use silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
