Oil Pan: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Remove the air cleaner and intake pipe. For additional information, refer to AIR CLEANER INTAKE PIPE -- 5.4L (3V) .
  3. Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR -- GASOLINE ENGINES .
  4. Remove the flexplate or flywheel. For additional information, refer to FLYWHEEL  or FLEXPLATE .
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6. Remove and discard the oil filter.

  7. Disconnect the engine oil temperature (EOT) sensor electrical connector.

  8. Remove the threaded shaft and position the oil cooler aside.

  9. Remove the 2 bolts and position the cooling fan shroud onto the cooling fan.

  10. Install the special tools.

    11. CAUTION: Only use hand tools when loosening the LH engine mount nuts or damage to the engine mount can occur.

  11. Loosen the 3 LH engine mount nuts.
    12. CAUTION: Only use hand tools when removing the RH engine mount nuts or damage to the engine mount can occur.

  12. Remove the 3 RH engine mount nuts.
  13. Remove the nut and the starter wiring harness support bracket.

  14. If equipped, remove the nut and position the transmission oil cooler lines and bracket aside.

  15. Using the special tools, raise the engine 12.7 mm (0.5 in).

  16. Using a suitable jack, raise and support the rear of the cylinder block.

  17. Remove the 16 bolts and partially lower the oil pan.
  18. Remove the 3 bolts and position the oil pump screen and pickup tube into the oil pan.
  19. Remove the oil pan and the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
    • Inspect the oil pan gasket for damage.
    • Discard the oil pan gasket.
    • Discard the oil pump screen and pickup tube O-ring seal.
