Removal and Installation

- Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to DEPOWERING PROCEDURE .
- Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- Remove the multifunction switch. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .
- Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
- Disconnect the clocksprings electrical connectors.
- Remove the transmission range indicator from the steering column.
- Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the cable and position the range indicator aside.
- Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column.
- Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
- Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column bracket.
- Disconnect the overdrive electrical connector.
- Disconnect the brake shift interlock electrical connector.
- Remove and discard the steering column shaft bolt.
- Secure the steering column preventing possible rotation of the clockspring.
- Remove the 4 nuts and the steering column.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to REPOWERING PROCEDURE .
