Removal and Installation

CAUTION: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of contaminants or premature failure of the power steering components can result.

NOTE: New Teflon® seals must be installed any time the power steering line fittings are disconnected.

Using a suitable suction device, drain the power steering fluid reservoir.
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
Remove the lower power steering pump bolt.

NOTE: Thoroughly clean all debris from the threads.

NOTE: To prevent fluid leakage be sure to insert the pressure line into the quick connect before positioning the pressure line bracket and tightening the lower power steering pump bolt.

Disconnect the pressure line-to-pump fitting.
- Discard the Teflon® seal.

NOTE: Thoroughly clean all debris from the threads of the fitting.

Disconnect the pressure line-to-steering gear fitting and remove the pressure line.
- Discard the Teflon® seal.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Using the special tool, install 2 new Teflon® seals on the pressure line fittings.
- Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to POWER STEERING SYSTEM FILLING .
