WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Ford Pickup, 2005 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2005 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2005 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Test Step
- E1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE LR OR RR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH
- Disconnect: Inoperative Rear Window Control Switch C701/C801.
- Key in ON position.
-
NOTE: Set the window lock switch to the UNLOCK position. Measure the voltage between inoperative rear window connector pin 4, circuit 193 (YE/LG) harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Result / Action to Take
- Yes : GO to E2.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E2 CHECK THE GROUNDS TO THE INOPERATIVE REAR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- For LR window, measure the resistance between LR window control switch C701 pin 6, circuit 316 (YE/LB) harness side and ground; and between LR window control switch C701 pin 1, circuit 317 (GY/OG) harness side and ground.
- For RR window, measure the resistance between RR window control switch C801 pin 6, circuit 320 (RD/BK) harness side and ground; and between LR window control switch C801 pin 1, circuit 319 (YE/BK) harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to E3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
- E3 CHECK THE CIRCUITS TO THE INOPERATIVE REAR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: LF Window Control Switch C504b.
- Measure the resistance between LF window control switch C504b pin 5, circuit 316 (YE/BK) and LR window control switch C701 pin 6, circuit 316 (YE/BK) harness side; or between LF window control switch C504b pin 3, circuit 320 (RD/BK) and RR window control switch C801 pin 6, circuit 320 (RD/BK) harness side.
- Measure the resistance between LF window control switch C504b pin 6, circuit 317 (GY/OG) and LR window control switch C701 pin 1, circuit 317 (GY/OG) harness side; or between LF window control switch C504b pin 2, circuit 319 (YE/BK) and RR window control switch C801 pin 1, circuit 319 (YE/BK) harness side.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to E4.
- No : REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
- E4 CHECK THE INOPERATIVE WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH
- Key in ON position.
- Connect a jumper wire between pin 1, circuit 319 (YE/BK) for RR window control switch, or circuit 317 (GY/OG) for LR window control switch and pin 5, circuit 881 (BN) for RR window control switch, or circuit 884 (YE/BK) for LR window control switch connector. Connect a second jumper wire between pin 3, circuit 193 (YE/LG) and pin 2, circuit 882 (BN/YE) for the RR window control switch, or circuit 885 (YE/LB) for the LR window control switch connector. The window should operate in the downward direction.
- Connect a jumper wire between pin 6, circuit 320 (RD/BK) for RR window control switch, or circuit 316 (YE/LB) for LR window control switch and pin 2, circuit 882 (BN/YE) for RR window control switch, or circuit 885 (YE/LB) for LR window control switch connector. Connect a second jumper wire between pin 3, circuit 193 (YE/LG) and pin 5, circuit 881 (BN) for the RR window control switch, or circuit 884 (YE/BK) for the LR window control switch connector. The window should operate in the upward direction.
- Does the window operate correctly?
- Yes : If the rear window did not operate with the rear window controls, INSTALL a new rear window control switch. If the rear window did operate with the rear window controls but not with the LH front window controls, INSTALL a new LH front window control switch. REFER to SWITCH in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to E5.
- E5 CHECK POWER WINDOW MOTOR CIRCUITS
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Power Window Motor C703/C803.
- Measure the resistance between inoperative window control switch C701 pin 5, circuit 884 (YE/BK) harness side and between LR power window motor C703 pin 1, circuit 884 (YE/BK) harness side; or C801 pin 5, circuit 881 (BN) harness side and between RR power window motor C803 pin 1, circuit 881 (BN) harness side.
- Measure the resistance between inoperative window control switch C701 pin 2, circuit 885 (YE/LB) harness side and between LR power window motor C703 pin 2, circuit 885 (YE/LB) harness side; or C801 pin 2, circuit 882 (BN/YE) harness side and between RR power window motor C803 pin 2, circuit 882 (BN/YE) harness side.
