Pinpoint Test D: The RF Power Window Is Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Ford Pickup, 2005 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2005 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2005 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Test Step

  1. D1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE PASSENGER WINDOW REGULATOR CONTROL SWITCH
    • Disconnect: RF Window Control Switch C604.
    • Key in ON position.
    • NOTE: Set the window lock switch to the UNLOCK position. Measure the voltage between RF window control switch C604 pin 3, circuit 193 (YE/LG) (Crew Cab) or circuit 400 (LB/BK) (Regular and SuperCab) harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

    Result / Action to Take

    • Yes  : GO to D2.
    • No  : For Crew Cab, REPAIR circuit 193 (YE/LG). TEST the system for normal operation.

For Regular and SuperCab, REPAIR circuit 400 (LB/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. D2 CHECK CIRCUITS 313 (WH/YE) AND 314 (TN/LB) FOR CONTINUITY TO GROUND
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between RF window control switch C604 pin 1 circuit 313 (WH/YE) and between pin 6, circuit 314 (TN/LB) harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
    • Yes  : GO to  D4.
    • No  : GO to D3.
  3. D3 CHECK CIRCUITS 313 (WH/YE) AND 314 (TN/LB) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: LF Window Control Switch C504a.
    • Measure the resistance between LF window control switch C504a pin 3, circuit 313 (WH/YE) harness side and RF window control switch C604 pin 1, circuit 313 (WH/YE) harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new LF window control switch. REFER to SWITCH  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. D4 CHECK CIRCUITS 313 (WH/YE) AND 314 (TN/LB) FOR CONTINUITY TO GROUND
    • Disconnect: RF Window Control Switch C604.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Connect a jumper wire between pin 1, circuit 313 (WH/YE) and pin 5, circuit 333 (YE/RD) on the RH front window regulator control switch connector and a second jumper wire between pin 3, circuit 193 (YE/LG) (Crew Cab) or circuit 400 (LB/BK) (Regular and SuperCab) and pin 2, circuit 334 (RD/YE) on the RH front window regulator control switch connector. The window should operate in the down direction.
