Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    NOTE: If removing front fuel injectors only, it is not necessary to remove upper intake manifold.
  1. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. If removing front fuel injectors only, go to next step. If removing rear fuel injectors or complete fuel injection supply manifold, remove upper intake manifold. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (UPPER)  under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS. Go to next step.
  2. Disconnect spark plug wires from spark plugs and remove air tube screws and hose clamps. Disconnect fuel injector connectors. Remove fuel injector wiring harness retainers and disconnect fuel injection wiring harness. Loosen hose clamp, remove bolt and disconnect fuel line from fuel supply manifold. Remove retaining bolts and remove fuel injection supply manifold.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. When installing fuel injectors, use NEW "O" rings. Lubricate "O" rings with clean 5W-30 engine oil. DO NOT use silicone grease. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
