Removal & Installation

- On 4.0L engines, raise and support vehicle for right bank spark plug removal. Remove right front tire and wheel, and right front fenderwell splash shield. On all engines, remove spark plug wire from spark plug. Use compressed air to remove any foreign material from spark plug well before removing spark plugs. Remove spark plugs.
- If an original spark plug is reused, ensure it is installed in same cylinder from which it was taken. New spark plugs can be used in any cylinder. Check and adjust spark plug gap as necessary. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten spark plugs to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
CAUTION:
Spark plug wires must be connected to proper cylinders. Mark spark plug wires before disconnecting them. It is important to twist spark plug wire boots while pulling upwards to avoid possible damage to spark plug wires.
NOTE:
Prior to installation, apply silicone dielectric compound to inside of spark plug wire boots.
