Removal & Installation (2.3L)

    NOTE: Crankshaft Timing Peg (303-507) will hold crankshaft in position during CKP sensor adjustment.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor connector. Remove engine plug bolt from right front side of engine block. See Fig 1. Rotate crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC) position. Install crankshaft timing peg. See Fig 2. Remove bolts retaining CKP sensor and remove CKP sensor. Install a 6-mm bolt into crankshaft pulley to verify proper ignition timing. See Fig 3.
  2. Install CKP sensor and bolts, but do not tighten bolts at this time. Using Crankshaft Position Sensor Alignment Jig, adjust CKP sensor. See Fig 4. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect CKP sensor connector. Remove 6-mm bolt from crankshaft pulley. Remove crankshaft timing peg. Install engine plug bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
