Camshaft Position Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is used for timing pulsing of fuel injectors. For Coil-On-Plug (COP) systems, CMP sensor signal is also used by Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to determine the proper coil to fire. See CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR under IGNITION SYSTEM.
