Cooling System Filling & Bleeding: 2.3L

With Partial Drain

  1. Ensure radiator draincock is closed fully. Fill system through degas bottle cap to .6" (15 mm) above "MAX" line. Install degas bottle cap.
    2. WARNING: DO NOT stand in line with or near engine cooling fan blade while revving engine.
  2. Start engine and hold engine speed at 2500 RPM for approximately 8 minutes until thermostat opens. Hold engine speed at 2500 RPM for an additional 3 minutes. Increase engine speed to 4000 RPM and hold for 5 seconds. Return engine speed to 2500 RPM and hold for an additional 3 minutes. Turn ignition off and check for leaks.

With Complete Drain

    WARNING: DO NOT stand in line with or near engine cooling fan blade while revving engine.
  1. Install radiator lower hose and close radiator draincock. Fill system through degas bottle cap to maximum fill level. Start engine and run for approximately 10 seconds at 2500 RPM to prime heater circuit, then turn ignition off. Top off coolant level to .6" (15 mm) above "MAX" line.
  2. Install degas bottle cap. Start engine and hold engine speed at 2500 RPM for approximately 8 minutes until thermostat opens. Hold engine speed at 2500 RPM for an additional 3 minutes.
  3. Increase engine speed to 4000 RPM and hold for 5 seconds. Return engine speed to 2500 RPM and hold for an additional 3 minutes. Repeat this step once and go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off and check for leaks. Verify correct fluid level after engine cools for 20 minutes. Top off degas bottle to "MAX" line.
