Removal & Installation (2.3L)

  1. Remove accelerator control cover. Remove air cleaner outlet tube. Disconnect accelerator cable and speed control cable, if equipped, from throttle linkage and mounting bracket. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor harness connector. Disconnect Thermal Manifold Absolute Pressure (TMAP) sensor harness connector.
  2. Disconnect vacuum hose and Idle Air Control (IAC) valve harness connector. Disconnect engine vacuum harness, brake booster hose and crankcase breather hose. Disconnect engine wiring harness and position aside. Remove Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube bracket bolt. Disconnect Intake Manifold Swirl Control (IMSC) valve harness connector. Disconnect IMSC valve monitor harness connector.
  3. Disconnect fuel line from clip. Remove 2 bolts from EGR tube flange. Detach 42-pin in-line harness connector from bracket and disconnect vapor purge hose. Disconnect Knock Sensor (KS) harness connector and disconnect connector from intake manifold. Remove wiring harness push-pin from bottom of intake manifold. Disconnect fuel injection supply manifold vacuum hose. Remove 5 bolts retaining intake manifold and remove intake manifold.
  4. Clean gasket mating surfaces. Inspect and replace intake manifold gaskets as necessary. Install intake manifold and 5 bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See Fig 1. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
