Driveshaft - Rear, One-Piece, Rear Wheel Drive (RWD): Removal

All vehicles

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
Index-mark the driveshaft to the transmission and the rear axle.

Vehicles with circular flange

NOTE: It may be necessary to tap the driveshaft yoke with a plastic or rubber soft-faced hammer if a pry area is not present on the driveshaft yoke.

Remove and discard the 4 flange bolts.

Vehicles with rear axle split pin yoke

NOTE: It may be necessary to tap the driveshaft yoke with a plastic or rubber soft-faced hammer if a pry area is not present on the driveshaft yoke.

Remove and discard the 4 split pin bolts and the 2 U-joint retainers.

Vehicle with transmission slip yokes

NOTE: Do not allow the output shaft to rotate while moving the driveshaft rearward.

Lower the driveshaft and slide it rearward off the transmission output shaft.
