Rear Brake Pads: Removal

- If necessary, remove the brake fluid until the brake master cylinder reservoir is half full.
- Remove the wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
- Remove the 2 brake caliper bolts and position the caliper aside.
- Remove the brake pads and retraction clips.
- Measure the brake disc thickness.
- Install a new brake disc if not within specification.
- Inspect the disc brake caliper for leaks.
- If leaks are found a new caliper must be installed.
- Inspect the disc brake anchor plate assembly.
- Check the guide pin boots for damage.
- Check the guide pins for binding and damage.
- Replace worn or damaged pins. Lube pins with Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound.
CAUTION:
Do not pry in caliper sight hole to retract pistons as this can damage the pistons and boots.
CAUTION:
When removing the brake caliper, never allow it to hang from the brake flexible hose. Provide a suitable support.
NOTE:
Install a new pads if they are worn past the specified thickness. Install new pads in complete axle sets.
