Removal & Installation - Midship Tank

NOTE: If removing the fuel tank for replacement of the fuel tank or the fuel tank solenoid valve, vent fuel tank. If removing the fuel tank for replacement of lines or support straps, turn in the manual lockdown valve jackscrew on the fuel tank solenoid valve. Vent fuel line. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove inboard stone shield retaining nuts. Remove outboard stone shield retaining nuts. Remove stone shield. Disconnect high-pressure fuel line from fuel tank solenoid valve. Disconnect electrical connector from fuel tank solenoid valve. Place identification marks on fuel tank support straps and tank. Remove retaining bolt and nut and upper stone shield support strap.
  2. Install powertrain lift with tilting plate. Position powertrain lift with tilting plate. Secure fuel tank with a nylon tie-down strap. Remove the rear fuel tank support strap, and position aside. Remove front fuel tank support strap retaining bolts. Carefully move fuel tank rearward while lowering so that upper fuel tank stone shield will clear the No. 3 crossmember. Remove fuel tank.
    3. NOTE: Replace the fuel line "O" ring seal. Lubricate the fuel line "O" ring seal with 5W-30 engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G or equivalent prior to installation, to help seal and ease the installation.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. After installation is complete, fuel lines and fittings must be leak tested. See LEAK TEST - ALL BI-FUEL VEHICLES under FUEL SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - EEC-V - BI-FUEL article.
