Pinpoint Test F: No Sound From One Or More Of The Speakers - Not All Speakers

CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with a CD6 audio unit, interrupting battery power within 30 seconds of repowering will damage the audio unit. To prevent audio unit damage, do not disconnect the battery (or audio unit), reconnect the battery (or audio unit), and then disconnect it again within 30 seconds.

F1 ISOLATE CONDITION
- Key in ON position.
- Turn on the audio unit.
- Carry out the speaker walk around test.
- Are all the speakers without sound?
- Yes : GO to PINPOINT TEST H .
- No : GO to F2.

F2 CHECK SPEAKER CIRCUIT(S)

Key in OFF position.
Disconnect: Audio Unit C2188a.
Disconnect: Silent Speaker(s).

Measure the resistance between the audio unit C2188a, harness side and the silent speaker connector, harness side; and between the audio unit C2188a, harness side and ground as follows:

Are the resistances less than 5 ohms between the audio unit and the silent speaker connector; and greater than 10,000 ohms between the audio unit and ground?

Yes : GO to F3.
No : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

F3 SUBSTITUTE SPEAKER
- Connect: Audio Unit C2188a.
- Substitute a known good speaker for each silent speaker.
- Key in ON position.
- Turn on the audio unit.
- Are the known good speakers silent?
- Yes : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized Ford audio repair facility. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL new speakers as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
