Compressed Natural Gas Fuel Line Venting
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Fuel supply lines remain pressurized after engine shutdown. Ensure no open flame of any type is present. Flammable gases may be present and ignite, resulting in possible injury. Always release (vent) fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component downstream of fuel tank shutoff solenoids. DO NOT vent fuel system indoors. Manufacturer recommends venting fuel through a vent stack that allows natural gas to be vented outside of repair shop. Vent stack must be approved by local authorities.
NOTE:
Vehicle may have optional additional (rear) tank assembly in trunk.
- Remove fuel pump relay from power distribution box. Disconnect negative battery cable. Insert grounding spike into earth. Connect grounding cable between grounding spike and fuel injection supply manifold. See Fig 1 .
- Connect fuel rail test and vent kit hose to Schrader valve on fuel rail. Ensure valve on tester is closed. Connect venting hose to fuel rail test and vent kit manifold.
- Slowly open bleed valve on fuel pressure test and venting kit manifold and allow fuel to vent to atmosphere for one minute. Close bleed valve. Remove pressure test and venting kit from vehicle. Fuel pressure should be exhausted within one minute. If fuel continues to vent after one minute, fuel shutoff solenoid(s) are stuck open.
