Pinpoint Test A: The Control Illumination Is Inoperative/Always On

  1. A1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE CONTROL ILLUMINATION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Make sure the headlamp switch is in the OFF position.
    • Is the control illumination on? 
    • Yes  : GO to A2.
    • No  : GO to  A4.
  2. A2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT TO POWER 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Is the control illumination on? 
    • Yes  : GO to A3.
    • No  : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING . TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. A3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1045 (DB/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Remove central junction box (CJB) fuse 36 (5A).
    • Is the control illumination on? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 19 (LB/RD). TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit 1045 (DB/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. A4 CHECK CIRCUIT 195 (TN/WH) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
    • Measure the voltage between the headlamp switch C205 pin B2, circuit 195 (TN/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to A5.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. A5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1045 (DB/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Remove central junction box (CJB) fuse 36 (5A).
    • Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch C205 pin I, circuit 1045 (DB/WH), harness side and CJB fuse 36 (5A) input side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to A6.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. A6 CHECK CIRCUIT 19 (LB/RD) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Climate Control C294e.
    • Measure the resistance between the CJB fuse 36 (5A) output side, circuit 19 (LB/RD) and the front climate control assembly C294e pin 2, circuit 19 (LB/RD).

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING . TEST the system for normal operation
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
