Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis, 2002 Lincoln Town Car, and 2002 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) is equipped with a permanent pigtail which must be protected when oxygen sensor is removed. Oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is less than 120°F (48°C). If necessary use a penetrant to help in loosening oxygen sensor. Ensure oxygen sensor is free of contaminants, and avoid using cleaning solvents of any type. Always use anti-seize compound on threads prior to installation. Tighten oxygen sensor to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
