Fuel Rail: Installation

    All vehicles 

    NOTE: 4.6L shown, 5.4L similar.
    NOTE: Lubricate the new O-ring seals with clean engine oil to aid installation.

  1. Install the fuel injectors in the fuel rail.
  2. NOTE: 4.6L shown, 5.4L similar.

  3. Install the fuel rail and the four bolts.
  4. Connect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve hose.

  5. Vehicles with 5.4L engine 

  6. Install the EGR valve tube. Tighten the fittings in two stages starting with the lower fitting.
    • Stage 1: Hand tighten.
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).

  7. Connect the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor hoses.

  8. Vehicles with 4.6L engine 

  9. Install the EGR valve tube. Tighten the fittings in two stages, starting with the lower fitting.
    • Stage 1: Hand tighten.
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  10. All vehicles 

  11. Install the crankcase ventilation tube.

  12. Connect the eight fuel injector electrical connectors.

  14. Connect the fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor vacuum hose and the electrical connector.
  15. Reposition the transmission fluid indicator and tube. Install the retaining bolt.

  16. Install the retaining nut for the transmission fluid indicator and tube.

  17. Connect the fuel line. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  18. Install the engine cover. For additional information refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  19. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
