Steering Wheel & Horn Pad: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . See Figure .
  2. Remove air bag module and disconnect clockspring electrical connector from module. Remove bolt and vibration damper (if equipped), and reinstall bolt loosely.
  3. CAUTION: DO NOT strike steering shaft with hammer or use slide hammer to remove steering wheel. Steering shaft bearings could be damaged if appropriate puller is not used to remove steering wheel.
  4. Use steering wheel puller to loosen steering wheel from steering shaft. Remove steering wheel bolt. Remove steering wheel.
