Contact Assembly (CLOCKSPRING): Removal

Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect positive battery cable. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition lock cylinder to LOCK position. Remove upper and lower steering column shrouds. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD . See Figure .
Disconnect contact assembly wire connector from column harness. If contact assembly is to be reused, tape contact assembly before removing to prevent rotation. Remove contact assembly by depressing retaining tangs with screwdriver.
