Removal and Installation

  1. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Disconnect the coolant hoses.

  4. Remove the oil filter.

  5. CAUTION: If metal, aluminum or foreign material is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. To diagnose mechanical concerns, Refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  6. Remove the threaded insert and the oil cooler.
    • Inspect the oil cooler.

  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Fill the engine with clean engine oil before filling the cooling system.
