Valve Cover - LH: Installation

    All engines 

  1. If a new gasket is being installed, apply instant gel adhesive completely around the gasket groove in the valve cover. Install the new valve cover gasket.

  2. NOTE: If not secured within four minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. To clean the sealing area, use silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

  3. Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant in two places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.
  4. Position the valve cover and gasket on the cylinder head. Loosely install the bolts.

  5. Romeo engine (4.6L) 

  6. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in Fig 4.

  7. Windsor engine (5.4L) 

  8. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in Fig 5.

  9. All engines 

  10. Connect the wiring harness to the PCM bracket.

  11. Position the engine control wiring harness onto the valve cover.

  12. Connect the LH radio interference capacitor electrical connector.

  13. Connect the CMP electrical connector.

  14. Connect the LH ignition coil and fuel injector electrical connectors and the wiring harness retainers.

  15. Romeo engine (4.6L) 

  16. Install the EGR system module tube.
    • Hand-tighten the upper and lower fittings.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  17. Position back the oil level indicator and tube. Install the bolt.

  18. Install the retaining nut for the oil level indicator and tube.

  19. Windsor engine (5.4L) 

  20. Position back the oil level indicator and tube. Install the bolt.

  21. Install the retaining nut for the oil level indicator and tube.

  22. Install the EGR valve tube.
    • Hand-tighten the upper and lower fittings.
    • Tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).

  23. Connect the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor hoses to the EGR valve tube.

    NOTE: 4.6L engine shown; 5.4L engine similar.

  25. Connect the crankcase ventilation tube to the valve cover.
  26. Install the engine air cleaner and air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  27. Install the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  28. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
