Intake Manifold - 4.6L: Installation

- Clean all the sealing surfaces.
- Install the upper intake manifold.
- Position the new intake manifold gaskets.
- Position the upper intake manifold.
- Loosely install nine bolts.
- Install the thermostat.
- Install the thermostat.
- Install a new O-ring seal.
- Install the thermostat housing and loosely install the bolts.
- Tighten the 11 bolts in two stages in the sequence shown in Fig 4.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Connect the fuel pressure sensor electrical connector and the vacuum hose.
- Install the generator upper support bracket.
- Install the eight ignition coils and bolts.
- Connect the eight fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Connect the eight coil-on-plug electrical connectors.
- Position a new throttle body adapter gasket and throttle body adapter assembly. Install the four bolts.
- Connect the emissions vapor hose.
- Connect the vacuum harness connector.
- If equipped, connect the auxiliary heater hoses. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Connect the following vacuum hoses:
- The brake booster vacuum hose.
- The positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve hose.
- The coolant hoses.
- Install the exhaust manifold to EGR system module tube.
- Hand-tighten the upper and lower fittings.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Connect the vacuum hoses at the EGR system module.
- Connect the EGR system module electrical connector.
- Connect the fuel hose spring lock coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Connect the TP sensor electrical connector.
- Push in the red clip.
- Connect the electronic throttle body electrical connector.
- Push in the red clip.
- Connect the coolant hose.
- Install the upper radiator hose and position the clamp.
- Position back the transmission fluid indicator and tube. Install the retaining bolt.
- Install the bolt for the transmission fluid tube and indicator.
- Install the air cleaner outlet pipe and tighten the clamp. Connect the engine vent tube.
- Connect the MAF sensor and position the ACL.
- Install the ACL.
- Install the four bolts.
- Tighten the clamp.
- Install the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
- Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Fill and bleed the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or any other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which can cause leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to clean sealing surfaces.
NOTE:
The thermostat housing bolts are tightened in sequence with the intake manifold bolts.
