Engine Support Insulators: Removal

  1. Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD - 4.6L  or INTAKE MANIFOLD - 5.4L .
  2. Remove the fan shroud and the engine cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  3. Disconnect the generator electrical connections.
    1. Remove the B+ terminal nut and disconnect the terminal.
    2. Disconnect the S electrical connector.
    3. Disconnect the ASI electrical connector.

  4. Remove the bolts and the generator.

  5. Remove the retainers and the shield.

  6. Release the wiring retainers from the heater outlet tube bracket.
    1. Release the knock sensor electrical connector retainer.
    2. Release the engine harness routing clip retainer.

  7. Disconnect the hose from the heater outlet tube.

  8. Remove the heater outlet tube studs.

  9. Remove the heater outlet tube.

  10. Remove the two transmission-to-engine bolts.

  11. Assemble the special tools.

  12. Install the special tools.

  13. Install the special tool and support the engine.

  14. Raise the vehicle on the hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  15. For the RH front engine support insulator, remove the starter motor. For additional information, refer to STARTING SYSTEM - GASOLINE ENGINES .
    16. NOTE: RH is shown; LH is similar.

  16. Remove the nuts.
  17. For the LH engine support insulator, disconnect the engine oil pressure (EOP) sensor electrical connector.

  18. For the LH engine support insulator, remove the EOP sensor.

  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Using the Heavy Duty Engine Support, raise the engine.
  21. Raise the vehicle.
    22. NOTE: Engine is shown removed for clarity.

  22. Remove the bolts and remove the insulators from the vehicle.
