Pinpoint Test X: The Instrument Cluster Is Inoperative

- X1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER VOLTAGE SUPPLY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONNECTOR-PIN & CIRCUIT REFERENCE
Instrument Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit C220a-5 1044 (WH/YE) C220b-1 729 (RD/WH) C220b-2 295 (LB/PK) - Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to X2.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- X2 CHECK CIRCUITS 938 (BK/LG) AND 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220a-10, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground; and between the instrument cluster C220B-14, circuit 938 (BK/LG), harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to X3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- X3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
