Axle Shaft: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to WHEELS & TIRES .
- Remove the differential housing cover and drain the lubricant. For additional information, refer to DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING COVER .
- Remove the brake caliper. For additional information, refer to REAR DISC BRAKE
- Remove the rear disc anchor plate and disc. For additional information, refer to REAR DISC BRAKE .
- Remove the differential pinion shaft.
- Remove and discard the differential pinion shaft lock bolt.
- Remove the differential pinion shaft.
- Remove the U-washer.
- Push the axle shaft inward.
- Remove the U-washer.
- Remove the axle shaft.
CAUTION:
Never allow the rear disc brake caliper to hang from the brake hose. Provide suitable support.
CAUTION:
Do not damage the rubber O-ring in the axle shaft groove.
CAUTION:
Do not damage the wheel bearing oil seal.
