Driveshaft - Rear Two-Piece: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Index-mark the driveshaft to the rear axle pinion flange.

  3. Remove the slip joint dust boot clamp and position the boot rearward.
  4. Remove four bolts, and disconnect and remove the rear driveshaft section.

  5. Support the coupling shaft, and remove the two center bearing bracket retaining bolts.

  6. Lock the parking brake.

  7. For E-450 and E-550 vehicles, index-mark the components and remove the four coupling driveshaft bolts from the parking brake assembly.

  8. NOTE: If a new output flange on the parking brake assembly needs to be installed, refer to PARKING BRAKE & ACTUATION .

  9. Separate the coupling shaft from the parking brake assembly.
