Test Procedure

  1. U1 CHECK COMMUNICATION TO THE PCM 
    NOTE: Always retrieve PCM DTCs before AFCM DTCs. Refer to the base vehicle INTRODUCTION - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE . Repair any network (Uxxx) DTCs before diagnosing powertrain (Pxxx) DTCs.
    • Key off.
    • Connect the scan tool.
    • Key on, engine off.
    • Access the PCM.
    • Access an active PID.

    Is Communication Possible? 

    Yes No
    GO to  U2. Refer to the base vehicle INTRODUCTION - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE .
  2. U2 CHECK COMMUNICATION TO THE AFCM 
    • Access the AFCM.
    • Access an active PID

    Is Communication Possible? 

    Yes No
    CLEAR the DTCs. ROAD TEST the vehicle. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC is stored again, GO to  U6. GO to  U3.
  3. U3 CHECK POWER TO THE AFCM 
    • Key off.
    • Disconnect the AFCM C1404.
    • Key on, engine off.
    • Measure the voltage between the AFCM C1404 pin 45, harness side and ground.
    • Measure the voltage between the AFCM C1404 pin 60, harness side and ground.

    Are The Voltages Greater Than 10 Volts? 

    Yes No
    GO to  U4. REPAIR the circuit in question.
  4. U4 CHECK THE AFCM GROUND CIRCUITS 
    • Key off.
      NOTE: Refer to the AFCM GROUND CIRCUITS  for AFCM connector pin numbers at the beginning of this pinpoint test.
    • Measure the resistance between the AFCM C1404 ground circuit pins, harness side and ground.

    Are The Resistances Less Than 5 Ohms? 

    Yes No
    GO to  U5. REPAIR the circuit in question.
  5. U5 CHECK THE AFCM SCP CIRCUITS 
    • Measure the resistance between the AFCM C1404 pin 87, harness side and the DLC C251 pin 2, harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between the AFCM C1404 pin 88, harness side and the DLC C251 pin 10, harness side.

    Are The Resistances Less Than 5 Ohms? 

    Yes No
    GO to  U6. REPAIR the circuit in question.
  6. U6 CHECK FOR CORRECT AFCM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the AFCM.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed out pins
    • Connect the AFCM connector and make sure it is seated correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

    Is The Concern Still Present? 

    Yes No
    INSTALL a new AFCM  . The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
