Test Procedure

- NB1 CHECK THE ALT FUEL SWITCH OPERATION IN GAS POSITION
- Key off.
- Place the ALT fuel switch in the GAS position.
- Key on, engine off.
Is The ALT FUEL INDICATOR Illuminated?
Yes No GO to NB2. GO to NB7. - NB2 CHECK THE ALT FUEL SWITCH CIRCUIT INPUT
- Key off.
- Connect the scan tool.
- Key on, engine off.
- Access the AFCM.
- Select the SEL_SW PID.
Does The SEL_SW PID Indicate Gas?
Yes No GO to NB3. GO to NB5. - NB3 CHECK THE ALT FUEL SWITCH FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key off.
- Disconnect the ALT fuel switch C2270.
- Key on, engine off.
- Access the AFCM.
- Select the SEL_SW PID.
Does The SEL_SW PID Indicate Gas?
Yes No GO to NB4. INSTALL a new ALT fuel switch. - NB4 CHECK THE ALT FUEL INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key off.
- Disconnect the AFCM C1404.
- Key on, engine off.
- Measure the voltage between the ALT fuel switch C2270 input circuit, harness side and ground.
Is Any Voltage Indicated?
Yes No REPAIR the circuit. GO to NB8. - NB5 CHECK THE AFCM FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT TO GROUND
- Key off.
- Disconnect the AFCM C1404.
- Key on, engine off.
Is The ALT FUEL INDICATOR Illuminated?
Yes No GO to NB6. GO to NB8. - NB6 CHECK THE ALT FUEL INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key off.
- Disconnect the ALT fuel switch C2270.
- Measure the resistance between the ALT fuel switch C2270 indicator control circuit, harness side and ground.
Is The Resistance Greater Than 10,000 Ohms?
Yes No INSTALL a new ALT fuel switch. REPAIR the circuit. - NB7 CHECK THE ALT FUEL SWITCH OPERATION
- Key off.
- Place the ALT fuel switch in the ALT position.
- Key on, engine off.
Is The ALT FUEL INDICATOR Illuminated?
Yes No The ALT fuel indicator is operating correctly at this time. If the concern is intermittent, REFER to INTERMITTENT DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUES . GO to Pinpoint Test AE . - NB8 CHECK FOR CORRECT AFCM OPERATION
- Disconnect the AFCM.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed out pins
- Connect the AFCM connector and make sure it is seated correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is The Concern Still Present?
Yes No INSTALL a new AFCM. The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
