Test Procedure

  1. DA1 MONITOR THE FRTMPAB PID 

    Is The Fuel Rail Temperature Within The Normal Operating Range? 

    Yes No
    CLEAR the DTCs. ROAD TEST the vehicle. REPEAT the self-test. For DTC P0182, GO to  DA2. For DTC P0183, GO to  DA4. For DTC P0182, GO to  DA2.
    For DTC P0183, GO to  DA4.
  2. DA2 SIMULATE AN OPPOSITE FRT SENSOR SIGNAL 
    • Key off.
    • Disconnect the FRT sensor C1257.
    • Key on, engine off.
    • Monitor the FRTMPAB PID.

    Is The FRTMPAB PID Less Than -30 °C (-22 °F)? 

    Yes No
    INSTALL a new FRT sensor. GO to  DA3.
  3. DA3 CHECK THE FRT SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key off.
    • Disconnect the AFCM C1404.
    • Measure the resistance between the FRT sensor C1257 signal circuit, harness side and ground.
    • Measure the resistance between the FRT sensor C1257 signal circuit, harness side and the FRT sensor C1257 SIG RTN circuit, harness side.

    Are The Resistances Greater Than 10,000 Ohms? 

    Yes No
    GO to  DA7. REPAIR the circuit in question.
  4. DA4 SIMULATE AN OPPOSITE SENSOR SIGNAL 
    • Key off.
    • Disconnect the FRT sensor C1257.
    • Key on, engine off.
    • Monitor the FRTMPAB PID.
    • Connect a 5-amp fused jumper wire between the FRT sensor C1257 signal circuit, harness side and the FRT sensor C1257 SIG RTN circuit, harness side.

    Is The FRTMPAB PID Greater Than 120°C (248 °F)? 

    Yes No
    INSTALL a new FRT sensor. GO to  DA5.
  5. DA5 CHECK THE FRT SENSOR SIGNAL AND SIG RTN CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key off.
    • Disconnect the AFCM C1404.
    • Measure the resistance between the FRT sensor C1257 signal circuit, harness side and the AFCM C1404 pin 31, harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between the FRT sensor C1257 SIG RTN circuit, harness side and the AFCM C1404 pin 89, harness side.

    Are The Resistances Less Than 5 Ohms? 

    Yes No
    GO to  DA6. REPAIR the circuit in question.
  6. DA6 CHECK THE FRT SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key on, engine off.
    • Measure the voltage between the FRT sensor C1257 signal circuit, harness side and ground.

    Is Any Voltage Indicated? 

    Yes No
    REPAIR the circuit. GO to  DA7.
  7. DA7 CHECK FOR CORRECT AFCM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the AFCM.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed out pins
    • Connect the AFCM connector and make sure it is seated correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

    Is The Concern Still Present? 

    Yes No
    INSTALL a new AFCM. The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
