Test Procedure

- AE1 CHECK THE ALT FUEL SWITCH PID
- Place the ALT fuel switch in the ALT position.
- Connect the scan tool.
- Key on, engine off.
- Access the AFCM.
- Select the SEL_SW PID.
Does The SEL_SW PID Indicate ALT?
Yes No GO to AE5. GO to AE2. - AE2 CHECK THE ALT FUEL SWITCH VPWR CIRCUIT
- Key off.
- Disconnect the ALT fuel switch C2270.
- Key on, engine off.
- Measure the voltage between the ALT fuel switch C2270 VPWR circuit, harness side and ground.
Is The Voltage Greater Than 10 Volts?
Yes No GO to AE3. REPAIR the circuit. - AE3 SIMULATE AN ALT FUEL SWITCH INPUT
- Access the AFCM.
- Select the SEL_SW PID.
- Connect a 5-amp fused jumper between the ALT fuel switch C2270 VPWR circuit, harness side and the ALT fuel switch C2270 input circuit, harness side.
Does The SEL_SW PID Indicate ALT?
Yes No INSTALL a new ALT fuel switch. GO to AE4. - AE4 CHECK THE ALT FUEL SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Key off.
- Disconnect the AFCM C1404.
- Measure the resistance between the ALT fuel switch C2270 input circuit, harness side and the AFCM C1404 pin 42, harness side.
Is The Resistance Less Than 5 Ohms?
Yes No GO to AE8. REPAIR the circuit. - AE5 CHECK THE ALT FUEL INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT
- Key off.
- Disconnect the AFCM C1404.
- Key on, engine off.
- Connect a 5-amp fused jumper between the AFCM C1404 pin 24, harness side and ground.
Is The ALT FUEL INDICATOR Illuminated?
Yes No GO to AE8. GO to AE6. - AE6 CHECK THE ALT FUEL INDICATOR PWR CIRCUIT
- Key off.
- Disconnect the ALT fuel switch C2270.
- Key on, engine off.
- Measure the voltage between the ALT fuel switch C2270 indicator PWR circuit, harness side and ground.
Is The Voltage Greater Than 10 Volts?
Yes No GO to AE7. REPAIR the circuit. - AE7 CHECK THE ALT FUEL INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Key off.
- Measure the resistance between the ALT fuel switch C2270 indicator control circuit, harness side and the AFCM pin 24, harness side.
Is The Resistance Less Than 5 Ohms?
Yes No INSTALL a new ALT fuel switch. REPAIR the circuit. - AE8 CHECK FOR CORRECT AFCM OPERATION
- Disconnect the AFCM.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed out pins
- Connect the AFCM connector and make sure it is seated correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is The Concern Still Present?
Yes No INSTALL a new AFCM. The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
