P0102: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 30 other vehicles, including the 2004 Mercury Sable, 2004 Mercury Mountaineer, 2004 Mercury Monterey, 2004 Mercury Marauder, and 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P0102 - MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) CIRCUIT LOW INPUT

Description:  The MAF sensor circuit is monitored by the PCM for low air flow (or voltage) input through the comprehensive component monitor (CCM). If during key ON, engine running the air flow (or voltage) changes below a minimum calibrated limit, the test fails.
Possible Causes:
  • MAF sensor disconnected.
  • MAF circuit open to PCM.
  • VPWR open to MAF sensor.
  • PWR GND open to the MAF sensor.
  • MAF RTN circuit open to PCM.
  • MAF circuit shorted to GND.
  • Intake air leak (near the MAF sensor).
  • A closed throttle indication (throttle position [TP] sensor system).
  • Damaged MAF sensor.
  • Damaged PCM.
Diagnostic Aids:  A MAF V PID (MAF PID) reading less than 0.23 volt in continuous memory or key ON and engine running indicates a hard fault.
Application  Key On Engine Off  Key On Engine Running  Continuous Memory
All GO to PINPOINT TEST DC: MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR Step 4.
