EPC Mode (Drive Mode)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis, 2002 Lincoln Town Car, 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, 2001 Mercury Mountaineer, and 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

This procedure is used to increase EPC pressure while testing transmission shift operation. This function only allows EPC pressure to be increased from normal PCM commanded pressure. An increase in EPC pressure (such as value 75 or 90), should create harsher shifts. With gearshift lever in "P" position, install pressure gauge in EPC pressure port. See HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TESTS under PERFORMANCE TESTS in FORD 4R70W OVERHAUL article. Start engine. Place gearshift lever in "D" position, and ensure vehicle speed is more than 2 MPH.
