Test F: Solenoid Mechanical Failure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis, 2002 Lincoln Town Car, 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, 2001 Mercury Mountaineer, and 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. NOTE: Repair all other DTCs before diagnosing the following DTCs: P1714, P1715 and P1740.
NOTE: After each service or repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components. Clear DTCs and repeat RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (QUICK TEST)  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Ensure all EEC-V systems are working properly and DTCs are no longer present.
  1. Install scan tool. Perform KOEO SELF-TEST until all continuous DTCs are retrieved. See QUICK TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1714, P1715 or P1740 is set and no other DTCs are set for TFT sensor or shift solenoids, replace solenoid for appropriate DTC. After repairs, go to next step. If any other continuous DTCs are set, repair them first. Erase all trouble codes. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Perform TRANSMISSION DRIVE CYCLE TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Repeat QUICK TEST. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (QUICK TEST)  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Perform TRANSMISSION DRIVE CYCLE TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Perform RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (QUICK TEST)  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If vehicle upshifts and downshifts okay, go to next step. If vehicle does not upshift or downshift okay, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS (ELECTRONIC)  or SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS (MECHANICAL)  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Install scan tool. Perform KOEO SELF-TEST until all continuous DTCs are retrieved. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (QUICK TEST)  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1714, P1715 or P1740 have been reset, replace PCM. Repeat QUICK TEST. If DTCs do not reset, testing is complete. If concern still exists, diagnose by appropriate symptom. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS (ELECTRONIC)  or SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS (MECHANICAL)  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
