Torque Converter Impeller To Pump Stator Interference Check

    CAUTION: To carry out this check, do not use the pump stator support which will be installed in the transmission. Damage to the pump stator support, front pump seal or front pump stator seal may occur.
    NOTE: Obtain a scrapped pump. Remove the stator support. This can be used as a permanent tool to carry out this check.
  1. Position the stator support with the splines up.
  2. Mount the torque converter on the stator support so that the splines on the one-way clutch inner race engage the mating splines of the stator support.

  3. CAUTION: On diesel applications the torque converter with multi plate clutches may rattle and make some scraping noises. This is normal.

  4. Hold the stator support stationary and rotate the torque converter counterclockwise.
    • The torque converter should rotate freely, with no signs of scraping.
    • If there are signs of scraping, install a new or remanufactured torque converter.
