Manual Control Lever Shaft & Seal: Removal

    NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the transmission fluid filter to carry out this procedure.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove the transmission oil pan. See DRAINING & REFILLING  under LUBRICATION. Remove the Transmission Range (TR) sensor. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR  .
  2. CAUTION: Do not damage the valve inner lever pin or case fluid pan rail.
  3. Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring screw. See Figure . Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring. Remove the manual valve inner lever nut. See Fig 1 .
  4. Separate the manual valve inner lever and the parking lever actuating rod. See Fig 2 . Remove the manual control lever shaft spring pin. See Fig 3 . Tap lightly on each side of the manual control lever shaft spring pin with a drift punch.
  5. Pry the spring pin out of its bore. Remove the manual control lever shaft. Do not damage the bore. Remove the manual control lever shaft seal. See Fig 4 .
