Extension Housing Seal & Bushing: Installation

CAUTION:
The lube hole in the extension housing bushing must be aligned with the lube groove in the extension housing. This groove is located at the 3 o'clock position when viewed from the rear. See Fig 1
.
- Inspect the counterbore of the extension housing for burrs. Remove any burrs from the extension housing counterbore with an oil stone. Position the extension housing bushing into the extension housing.
- Using the Extension Housing Bushing Installer (307-065), install the extension housing bushing. See Fig 2 . Position new extension housing seal with drain hole in the 6 o'clock position. See Fig 3 . Using the Extension Housing Seal Installer (307-038), install the extension housing seal. See Fig 4 .
- Inspect the driveshaft slip-yoke for wear and damage. Install a new component if required. Align the driveshaft with the marks made during removal to make sure balance is correct. See Figure . Install the rear driveshaft bolts.
- Lower the vehicle. Fill the transmission with appropriate fluid to proper level and check for correct transmission operation. See LUBRICATION .
CAUTION:
The extension housing bushing installer will bottom when bushing is in the correct position.
