Removal and Installation

All vehicles 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to JACKING & LIFTING .

    Vehicles with automatic transmission 

  2. Remove the fluid level indicator.

  3. Remove the transmission fluid fill tube nut.

  4. Position aside the transmission fluid filler tube.

    All vehicles 

  5. Remove the turbocharger heat shield.

  6. NOTE: Early production shown, late production similar.

  7. Disconnect the injector control pressure (ICP) and the injector pressure regulator (IPR) valve sensor electrical connectors.
  8. NOTE: Use a 1-3/8 inch 12-point deep flare nut crowfoot wrench, such as a Snap-on® AN850822B or equivalent, to remove the valve.

  9. Remove the IPR valve.
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Apply clean engine oil to the IPR valve prior to installing it.
