Harsh Shift Feel
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2002 Lincoln Navigator, 2002 Ford Expedition, 2001 Lincoln Navigator, 2001 Ford RV Cutaway, and 2001 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
All gasoline vehicles equipped with Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor, will have new adaptive shift strategies. Whenever battery is disconnected for any reason, strategy parameters that are stored in Keep Alive Memory (KAM) will be lost. Once vehicle battery is reconnected, vehicle must be driven while Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns parameters from driving conditions. If a concern is present during downshifts or converter clutch apply, concern is not shift strategy and will require diagnosis as outlined.
Fluid level, high line pressure, valve body bolts improperly torqued (gasket damage), EPC solenoid, accumulator assembly, valve body components (line modulator valve) and pump assembly (main regulator/booster valve damaged or misassembled). If all previous listed items are okay, see HARSH 1-2 SHIFT , HARSH 2-3 SHIFT , HARSH 3-4 SHIFT , HARSH 4-3 SHIFT , HARSH 3-2 SHIFT or HARSH 2-1 SHIFT for diagnosis of affected shift routines.
