Transaxle Drive Cycle Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The transmission drive cycle test must be followed exactly.
  1. After repairing any engine performance-related DTCs, erase remaining transaxle-related DTCs. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure transaxle fluid level is correct.
  2. Shift transaxle to "D" position with overdrive ON. Moderately accelerate from stop to 50 MPH. Hold speed for at least 15 seconds. Lightly apply and release brakes. Hold speed and throttle steady for an additional 5 seconds. Apply brakes, and bring vehicle to a full stop. Idle vehicle for at least 20 seconds.
  3. Repeat step  2 at least 5 times. Retrieve and record DTCs. Perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
