WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCM harness connector C277A. Connect a fused jumper wire between terminal No. 3 (Orange/Blue wire) at TCM harness connector C277A and positive battery terminal. Listen for click at transaxle. If TCC solenoid clicks when power is applied, replace TCM. See TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If TCC solenoid does not click, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect transaxle solenoid harness connector. Measure resistance of Orange/Blue wire between terminal No. 3 at TCM harness connector C277A and terminal No. 8 at transaxle solenoid harness connector. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange/Blue wire.
  3. Measure resistance of Orange/Blue wire between terminal No. 3 at TCM harness connector C277A and ground. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace transaxle solenoid assembly. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING. If resistance is not greater than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/Blue wire.
