Front Safety Belt Retractor - Seat Integrated Restraint (SIR), SuperCab: Removal

WARNING: Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
WARNING: Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.
WARNING: The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.
NOTE: If a seat equipped with a seat mounted side air bag and/or a safety belt pretensioner (if equipped) system is being serviced, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) must be depowered.
NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
NOTE: The driver side is shown, the passenger side is similar.

All seats 

  1. Depower the SRS. Refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
  2. Remove the seat on the side with the affected safety belt retractor. Refer to SEATING .
  3. Remove the seat adjuster control knobs, covers and the seat side trim panel screws.
    1. Remove the seat recliner lever cover screw and cover.
    2. Pull to remove the lumbar control knob.
    3. Remove the three seat side trim panel attachment screws (two shown).

  4. Remove the two screws securing the lumbar adjuster control to the seat track riser.
    • Push the lumbar adjuster control inward to provide clearance for trim panel removal.

    Vehicles with power seats 

  5. Disconnect the seat control switch electrical connector.

    Vehicles with heated seats 

  6. Disconnect the heated seat switch electrical connector.

    All seats 

    7. NOTE: Note the seat control switch wire harness routing for installation.
  7. Remove the side trim cover.
  8. Remove the seat backrest trim panel.
    1. Using a pin-type retainer removal tool, release the two pin-type retainers at the bottom of the seat backrest trim panel (see inset for location).
    2. Push the sides of the seat backrest trim panel together and release the retaining clips (see inset for location).
    3. Slide the seat backrest trim panel down, releasing the upper retainers and remove the seat backrest trim panel.

  9. Release the seat backrest trim cover J-clips.

    10. NOTE: The inboard and outboard tower cap covers are not interchangeable.

  10. Remove the inboard, outboard and front tower cap screw covers. Remove four tower cap attachment screws.
    11. NOTE: Observe the retainer bracket orientation.

  11. Remove the screws and the bracket.
  12. Using an appropriate pry tool, separate and remove the outer and front safety belt web guides.
    1. Using a pin-type retainer removal tool, release the two pin-type retainers for the web guide.
    2. Remove the front safety belt web guide.
    3. Remove the upper safety belt web guide.

  13. Remove the nut and the safety belt anchor.

    14. NOTE: If reusing the safety belt retractor, do not allow safety belt to completely recoil back into the retractor.
    NOTE: Safety belt retractors are specific to LH or RH seats and are not interchangeable.

  14. Remove the safety belt retractor.
    1. Remove the bolt
    2. Remove the safety belt retractor through the back of the seat.
      • Route out the safety belt, guide, tongue and anchor.
