Engine Will Only Idle

NOTE:
Vehicle may be equipped with an Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) sensor or an Accelerator Pedal (AP) sensor. ETC sensor has a 10-pin connector and AP sensor has a 3-pin connector. If vehicle is equipped with an AP sensor, it will also be equipped with an Idle Validation Switch (IVS). See Fig 1. IVS has a 2-pin connector. ETC sensor is mounted above accelerator pedal.
Ensure AP sensor, IVS or ETC sensor is mounted correctly. Ensure connector(s) is properly installed. Ensure floor mats do not interfere with accelerator pedal. Ensure accelerator pedal is not damaged. Repair as necessary. If no problems are found, and vehicle is equipped with an AP sensor and IVS, go to TEST DD: ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR or TEST FE: IDLE VALIDATION SWITCH in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V - DIESEL article. If no problems are found, and vehicle is equipped with an ETC sensor, go to TEST QC: ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL , step 13) in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V - DIESEL article.
