Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Inspection and Verification

NOTE:
A new Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) module must be reconfigured after installation. Refer to
MODULE CONFIGURATION

- Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the diagnostic tool does not power up:
- check that the program card is correctly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch is in RUN position.
- If the diagnostic tool still does not power up, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
- Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
- CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = all electronic control units, no response/not equipped, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- No response/not equipped for PATS module, Go To PINPOINT TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) MODULE .
- System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the PATS module.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) Index to continue diagnosis.
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) - SYMPTOM CHART to continue diagnosis.
