Removal and Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the bolts and the skid plate (4x4 only).

  3. Remove bolts and the air deflector.

  4. Remove the cooler tube bracket and nut, then the fluid cooler tube bracket. Separate the fluid cooler tube bracket from the tubes.

  5. Disconnect, and remove each fluid cooler tube, as necessary.

  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Fill the transmission with Motorcraft MERCON® Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent meeting MERCON® specifications.
    • Check for leaks.
