Steering Column - Manual Transmission: Disassembly

All vehicles
- Remove the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN .
- Remove the ignition switch.
- Remove the screws.
- Remove the ignition switch.
- Remove the upper bearing retainer.
- Rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise and remove the steering column lock housing bearing.
- Note the position of the keyhole and remove the steering column lock gear.
Vehicles with fixed steering column
- Remove the snap ring from the bottom of the steering column shaft.
Vehicles with tilt column
- Remove the sensor ring.
- Remove the steering column lower bearing spring.
- Remove the sensor ring.
All vehicles
- Remove the steering column lower bearing tolerance ring from the steering column shaft.

Vehicles with tilt column
- Remove the 2 lock cylinder housing pivot screws.
All vehicles
- Remove the lock cylinder housing and the steering column shaft from the steering actuator housing.
- Pry up on the steering column lock left hand levers using a shop fabricated tool.
- On a tilt steering column, remove the steering column position spring.
- Remove the turn signal cancel cam.
- Remove the snap ring.
- Remove the steering column upper bearing spring.
- Remove the steering column bearing sleeve.
- Remove the steering column bearing tolerance ring.
- Slide the steering column shaft in toward the steering column lock cylinder housing.
- Slide the steering column bearing tolerance ring off the steering column shaft and remove the shaft.
- Using a suitable punch, remove the steering column bearing from the steering column lock cylinder housing.

Vehicles with tilt column
- Use a suitable punch to remove the steering column bearing from the steering column lock cylinder housing.

All vehicles
- Remove the steering column lower bearing and sleeve.
- Remove the steering column lower bearing retainer.
- Remove the three bolts.
- Remove the steering column lower bearing retainer.
- Remove the upper steering column lock lever actuator and the lower steering column lock lever actuator.
