Electronic Pressure Control Solenoid

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 13 other vehicles, including the 2003 Mazda B4000, 2003 Mazda B3000, 2003 Mazda B2300, 2002 Mazda B4000, and 2002 Mazda B3000. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) solenoid is a Variable Force Style (VFS) solenoid. VFS type solenoids are an electro-hydraulic actuator, combining a solenoid and a regulating valve. PCM varies the current to EPC solenoid, which causes EPC solenoid to regulate transmission line pressure and line modulator pressure. This is done by producing resisting forces to main regulator and line modulator circuits, which in turn control clutch application pressures. If EPC solenoid pressure goes to maximum, shifts and engagements will be harsh.
